AKC Star Pomeranian Puppy

AKC Star Puppy!

Can your dog do it?

The AKC S.T.A.R. PuppyTM is a program that encourages new dog owners to give their puppies a good start in life. If dog owners complete the class and the dog passes a basic manners test, they'll get a special reward. S.T.A.R stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsibility.

If you and your dog earn the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy award, you’ll be able to get information about puppy-raising, housetraining, chewing, and training. Once you've completed the Star Puppy program, you may want to take the next step and train your dog to be an AKC® Canine Good Citizen®. If your dog is a Star Puppy already, then it won't be too difficult for him to become a Canine Good Citizen®.

Bulldog puppy

When you complete a basic training class (taught by a specially trained teacher) with your puppy (up to 1 year old) for at least six weeks, your puppy is eligible to be enrolled in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program.

Your instructor will give you and your dog the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test at the end of the course. If you both pass, you'll get an application to send to AKC® for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy ProgramTM. Both purebreds and mixed breeds can take the training, the test, and become an AKC Star Puppy.

Your puppy will receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal to display. You and your puppy will be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records. Also, you’ll receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy package that includes:
• A cool certificate designating your puppy is in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records at AKC
• AKC Puppy Handbook
• Discount to enroll in AKC lost and found program
• Monthly email newsletter, which has training tips and current information for dog owners.

A key component of the AKC S.T.A.R. PuppyTM Program is a responsible owner. Our Canine Good Citizen Responsible Dog Owner’s Pledge is for the AKC S.T.A.R. PuppyTM Program too. Responsibility should start the moment you decide to add a new dog or puppy to your family.
